Zone4Play has acquired the remaining interest in MiXTV, the SMS-TV company it co-founded.
MiXTV uses mobile messaging to bring interactive gaming and participation television to viewers without requiring a return-path.
Zone4Play was founded in 2001, and in February 2004 the Company successfully completed a reverse merger with a public company. Later that year Zone4Play formed MiXTV in a joint venture with NetFun, a developer of mobile messaging technologies.
Zone4Play has now acquired the remaining MiXTV shares from NetFun in exchange for shares in Zone4Play. The agreement provides Zone4Play with sole ownership of MiXTV’s intellectual property and patents.
“This acquisition is another step in turning Zone4Play into a worldwide leader in the interactive arena,” said chief executive Shimon Citron.
The company says that SMS to television is already lucrative in Europe and is about to expand into the United States market. Zone4Play is planning to introduce a number of formats based on the combined technologies of the two companies.
