Widevine, a provider of content security systems, has been cited the leader in conditional access for internet protocol platforms by a new research report.

The report on Conditional Access and Digital Rights Management from ABI Research looks at emerging conditional access and digital rights management technologies.

Vamsi Sistla, ABI’s director of broadband and residential entertainment technologies, said, “It is evident that the legacy leaders such as NDS, Nagravision, Motorola, Scientific Atlanta and Irdeto are trailing at present in the emerging platforms. But the race has just begun. These rankings could change.”

“Widevine recognized early on that the legacy approach to security was not going to enable new business models and distribution methods,” said Brian Baker, president and chief executive of Widevine Technologies. “Now the operators are recognizing it, too.”

The Widevine Cypher solution is designed to protect content in a range of environments, including interactive and on-demand services, for local storage and across home networks.
