A Hindi version of a BBC documentary will be available to digital viewers using interactive television.

One Night in Bhopal examines the world’s worst industrial accident which took place twenty years ago in the Indian city of Bhopal, leading to the deaths of at least 15,000 people.

The Hindi language version is aimed at Britain’s Indian and other South Asian communities. Digital reach among British Asians is particularly high at 70 per cent, partly due to the availability of Asian language programming on satellite and cable.

The Hindi language version will be available to viewers through the red button on their digital remote.

The BBC hopes interactive TV will be an effective way of reaching the part of that audience that does not speak English as a first language.

One Night in Bhopal, BBC One, 21:00, Wednesday, 1 December 2004.
