At the National Show of the cable industry in New Orleans, Motorola announced a five-year licensing agreement with OpenTV.

Under the agreement, Motorola will be able to offer cable and satellite operators a wide range of digital receivers that have been fully integrated and tested with OpenTV’s Core 1.1 middleware. The agreement also covers a variety of OpenTV extension packages, including support for Motorola’s family of receivers with built-in digital video recording capability.

“We are delighted to build upon the long-standing relationship we’ve enjoyed with Motorola,” said James Ackerman, Chief Executive Officer, OpenTV. “This licensing agreement will create new opportunities for both companies by making it easier for operators to quickly deploy a state-of-the-art iTV solution, comprised of hardware and software that has already been tested to reliably work together.”

“We are looking forward to working with OpenTV to provide compelling digital television solutions to our customers throughout the world,” said Carl McGrath, Motorola corporate vice president and general manager, digital core gateways.
