Premium Rate Services
The use of premium rate telephone numbers enables micro payment revenue generation from the in-built billing functions of telephony based services.
The call charge revenue is shared between the telephone service provider and the organisation providing the content.
In the UK premium rate services generally have an 090 dialling code prefix. Certain premium rate mobile services may also use short access codes typically consisting of four or five digit numbers.
The content and promotion of such services in the UK is regulated by the industry body ICSTIS, the Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services.
