UK cable operator Telewest has revealed new subscriber growth since it was recently restructured and confirmed an intention to launch video on demand and personal video recorder services.

Telewest Global, the re-organised company now listed on NASDAQ, has seen a net gain of 70,000 broadband subscribers in the last quarter, with nearly a quarter of all their customers taking the triple play bundled offering of video, voice and telephony services.

In presenting the first set of figures since completion of the financial restructuring of Telewest Communications plc, Eric Tveter, president and chief operating officer commented: “Customer growth during the quarter has been the best for more than two years.”

Telewest added just over 25,000 net digital cable television subscribers over the quarter, with a total of 1.07 million homes.

The company says that it will begin rolling out video on demand in the first half of 2005, followed by personal video recorder services in the second half of the year.

Telewest also announced upgrades to broadband bandwidth for its cable customers.
