ADB will provide hybrid digital terrestrial television and internet protocol set-top boxes for the Telefonica Imagenio service in Spain.
The “significant” order for DVB-T IPTV hybrid boxes follows almost two years of close cooperation between the companies. It comes in preparation for the rollout of Telefonica’s Imagenio service in Spain, which has previously been trialled in Madrid and Alicante.
Telefonica recently announced that it has 40,000 subscribers to the service. The Spanish government also recently announced plans to auction seven new digital terrestrial television licences before the end of the year.
Advanced Digital Broadcast, based in Switzerland, will provide the set-top boxes, which will be MPEG-4 capable and able to support the MHP Multimedia Home Platform standard. A video camera and a microphone can also be connected to the set-top box to enable video telephony.
“This unit, incorporating advanced video coding and video telephony, will enable mass-market deployment of richly featured internet protocol TV at a competitive cost to operators,” said Philippe Lambinet, the chief executive of ADB.
