A new release of SKY+ will allow the recording of interactive streams in a similar manner to scheduled programmes. It is not currently possible to record the audio and video streams associated with enhanced television services. It is understood that this will be addressed in a new software release currently on trial and set for delivery in the Autumn.

Apparently it will allow interactive streams to be recorded via the Electronic Programme Guide. This will be enabled by an extension to the EPG data, making it possible to schedule the recording of an interactive stream where there is a scheduled start and end time or at the request of the user.

It will only be possible to record the audio audio and video streams associated with enhanced television services. The interactive application, and therefore any interface or navigation will not be recorded.

It is understood by informitv that so far the tests have been successful in recording streams associated with Sky’s own services, although the capability came too late to enable testing with the BBC’s Wimbledon and Euro 2004 interactive services.
