Angel Gambino, BBC New Media’s controller of business development and emerging platforms, says she is leaving the corporation.
Angel revealed that she would be leaving BBC New Media at the Mobile Video and TV Forum conference in London. She was there speaking on “evaluating opportunities and implications for delivering compelling broadcast content to the mobile viewer”.
Reporting directly to Ashley Highfield, the BBC director of New Media, Angel’s responsibilities included the distribution and delivery of new media content to broadband and mobile platforms.
Recently, when announcing a redesign of the BBC Broadband web site by design agency Graphico, she said “Broadband is no longer an emerging platform. User take-up shows that broadband has already emerged and is fast outstripping narrowband.” The BBC also recently redesigned its web site aimed at mobile users.
Angel joined the BBC in 2001, establishing the business development department in the New Media division. She was responsible for launching the BBC’s broadband offering, and building partnerships with third-party distributors and mobile operators.
Prior to joining the BBC, Angel was managing director of broadband services for Gameplay, a multimedia games company.
Angel was not disclosing her next move, but it is understood that she will remain in the UK.
