DIRECTV, the US satellite television operator, has hired an executive from Time Warner Cable to look at long-term broadband strategy.

Evan Grayer has been appointed to the new position of vice president for broadband. He previously held business development roles at Time Warner Cable and America Online.

“Evan brings to DIRECTV a vast array of experience in multichannel television, high-speed internet, and wireless services,” said Chase Carey, president and chief executive of the DIRECTV Group. “His in-depth knowledge of the broadband market will undoubtedly serve DIRECTV well as we address the role broadband will play in our business going forward.”

“Broadband can be an integral part of the mix of services provided by today’s media companies,” added Evan, who will be responsible for evaluating broadband options for DIRECTV.
