I know many readers have experienced real difficulties and long delays in returning from the NAB and MIPTV conventions, while many programme productions faced disruption, as a result of an unprecedented ban on flights across Europe. I was fortunate to be on one of the first planes back to Britain, one of several launched across the Atlantic by British Airways in a bold bid to open up UK airspace. We took off without clearance to land and had to circle over Ireland and put down at Shannon before the authorities finally allowed flights to continue and we could land at an empty Heathrow airport. At least we were not affected by industrial action by the cabin crew. It just shows how much we tend to take international air travel for granted.
