This week NTL:Telewest will re-launch under Richard Branson’s Virgin brand, aiming to bring some gloss and glamour to the tainted and tarnished image of cable television in the United Kingdom. The launch of Virgin Media, originally anticipated on Valentine’s Day, will be on 8 February, apparently to play on the infinity symbol of the new Virgin Media logo. The company is expected to rename its personal video recorder the VPlus box, presumably combining the benefits of the V-box from BT Vision with those of Sky+. The multi-million pound marketing campaign began with tease spots that promoted a domain name – comingvsoon.com – that did not resolve as advertised without adding the www prefix.
