June already. We’re nearly half way through 2015. Now 2020 does not feel that far off. Never mind 4K TV, we may well be talking about 8K ultra-high-definition television by then. The television world appears to advance remarkably rapidly in some respects but surprisingly slowly in others. Consumer electronics companies need to innovate, while broadcasters need to maintain compatibility with a large legacy of installed devices and displays. As a result it can take a decade for developments to reach mainstream adoption. Which means it’s all the more important to be thinking about the next decade now.
