A forecast published today indicates that two thirds of pay television operators worldwide will gain subscribers over the next five years. However, Digital TV Research suggests that the top 10 operators will lose subscribers and the next 40 will remain flat, with growth coming from smaller operators.
The total number of subscribers across our own Multiscreen Index of 100 leading service providers worldwide has remained relatively flat over the last two years, having generally risen until then. The exception is in the United States, where the total of subscribers for the top 10 services has fallen by 10.88 million over the last three years. Meanwhile, the number of subscribers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa has been steadily rising.
