Stereoscopic television is coming, 3D ready or not. The technology is here, even if the sets are not in the shops, but it has real implications both for production practice and the viewing experience. Sky is clearly committed to promoting 3D TV as a means of continuing to differentiate its pay-television platform. Whether we will all want to wear dark glasses to watch television, as opposed to playing an immersive game or sitting in a cinema, remains to be seen. Industry and public opinion appears to be divided on whether it really adds depth to programming. We are currently working on a special supplement feature on the subject and would be very interested to receive your views on 3D TV. Whether you are an expert stereographer or a deep 3D sceptic, do get in touch.
