There are over a billion television subscribers worldwide. Digital TV Research estimates that the number increased by 26 million in 2018 to 1,016 million, or just over 60% of all television households in 138 countries. Cable television accounted for half of television subscribers, down from three-quarters in 2010. Telco television has overtaken satellite in subscriber numbers, representing a quarter of the total number of homes paying for television.
