For the last ten years or more, since the dawn of digital television, people have been predicting that the next year will see interactive television become mainstream. Our interaction with television has taken different forms to those imagined by some and it is already a reality for many. Nevertheless, it seems that the next digital decade will see network connected television and video devices and displays become prevalent. The worlds of broadcast and broadband, of television and the internet, are slowly converging and people are beginning to view their flat-panel high-definition displays as screens rather than televisions. These are tough but exciting times, full of challenges and opportunities across the different industries that will compete for the attention and custom of the viewer. I wish you season’s greetings and a prosperous new year as we look forward to the next digital decade.
