The Project Canvas proposal from the BBC was the subject of much speculation at the IPTV World Forum in London. For some the contribution of a major broadcaster like the BBC could be a catalyst to create a common set of standards for connected televisions to provide a compelling user proposition. For others it may seem like an unnecessary intervention in an emerging ecosystem that is not short of standards but recognises the complexity of delivering interoperability across the value network. As an independent consultancy specialising in the convergence of broadband and broadcast, informitv is preparing a report on the issues of standards for connected television experiences and would welcome your input. If you have views on the challenges and opportunities, the standards that should be supported, or the role of broadcasters, carriers and consumer electronics companies in delivering this vision, do get in touch.
