The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio will be captured in both 8K and 4K Ultra HD. The test coverage will be limited to the opening and closing ceremonies and certain events. It’s unlikely to be seen by a wide audience, but the early adoption of 8K is notable, particularly for those currently considering investments in 4K. We can expect to see 8K services available to the public well before the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Next week I’ll be chairing a session on UHD at the Connected TV World Summit in London. We’ll be discussing UHD services that are available today and the vision for more immersive video in the future.
