Zip Television, the UK interactive television company aiming to launch a dedicated interactive advertising channel, has announced a major funding round from international investment company Morgan Ventures.
No figures have been released, but Managing Partner Andrew Howells says it will allow the company to expand globally.
Zip Television established Consortium4TV, a collaboration between ten advertising partners, including P&G and Unilever, together accounting for over 40% of all annual UK television advertising spend.
Zip originally aimed to launch a virtual interactive advertising channel in April, but the date has been delayed several times and services are now expected to air in July.
Consortium members, who each pay Zip £20,000 a year, will share their experiences and proprietary research to understand how interactive advertising best works. The initiative is working with Continental Research to benchmark the results of interactive campaigns.
Zip has joined forces with software company Emuse to offer their Modelstream authoring software to create interactive adverts.
Some creative agencies have been critical of Zip’s approach of working directly with brand owners.
Sky recently announced an award to reward creativity and grow industry awareness among advertising agencies.
