MTV will launch a new hybrid channel, MTV Overdrive, available on the web by broadband.
The new network will combine both linear viewing and video-on-demand services, with news, interviews, music videos, live performances, and original short-form material.
“Like our audience, we are always evolving, finding new ways to create compelling content for breakthrough technologies, and Overdrive is a powerful new platform that allows users to have more control over the way they experience MTV,” said Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks.
There will be six distinct channels of programming, news, music, television, and movies, supported by advertisers including Microsoft.
Launching on 25 April, MTV Overdrive will be delivered using Windows Media with digital rights management. A version optimised for Microsoft Media Center Edition personal computers will follow.
