SBC Communications has awarded a multi-million dollar subscriber management contract to Amdocs to support its Project Lightspeed initiative to offer internet protocol based video, voice and broadband data services.
Amdocs will provide a billing, customer relationship management, ordering and payment management system, together with consulting and systems integration services. The aim is to offer a consistent customer service experience at all touchpoints, including the web.
“The ability to rapidly launch competitive and innovative services, while delivering a differentiated customer experience, is essential for success in the new IP-based economy,” said Lea Ann Champion of SBC.
“Widespread deployment of IP-based networks will enable telecommunications companies to enter exciting new areas of business,” said Michael Matthews of Amdocs. “Service providers like SBC companies that have the foresight to recognize the value of customer centricity.”
Project Lightspeed is a $4 billion capital initiative using an internet protocol-based fibre-to-the-neighbourhood and fibre-to-the-premises network to deliver advanced communications services. SBC plans to offer the first set of products under the U-verse brand by early 2006 and expects the network to reach 18 million households, as part of its initial deployment, by the end of 2007.
