This week the new director general of the BBC will outline his vision for the corporation over the next decade. Tony Hall is expected to put online services at the centre of a more personalised relationship with its compulsory licence fee payers, as the public broadcaster looks forward to the centenary of its foundation as a private company in 2022. After what can only be described as a difficult year for the BBC, it will now need to focus on what it undoubtedly does best. The main issue to be faced is how this will be funded once its current charter expires at the end of 2016.
