Television and video technology is increasingly enabled by software running on commodity hardware. This was much in evidence at the recent IBC Show in Amsterdam. Sophisticated capabilities are ever more affordable, as the distinction between professional and consumer specifications diminishes in the digital domain. The quality of the result is now more dependent upon creativity and traditional craft skills than the cost of the kit. For those of us that grew up in an analogue era, it is incredibly exciting to see what can be achieved with comparatively cost-effective digital technology.
