Before people had high speed internet access they didn’t really realise they needed it. Now they cannot get enough of it. They may have more bandwidth, but the internet doesn’t seem to be getting any faster. People can just do more with it and they tend to take that for granted. It may be difficult for some people to envision what they would do with a network connection that can carry hundreds or thousands of megabits per second. Their computer may already have such a network port but it’s probably limited by the network to which it’s connected. Imagine if bandwidth were not an issue, if you could receive high definition video from anywhere in the world that looked as good, if not far better, than anything on satellite, cable or terrestrial television. That’s not a pipe dream. The programming and the networks are already there, they’re just not very evenly distributed.
