Last week I was fortunate to stay on an uninhabited desert island with no mains water, electricity, radio or television, but excellent 3G mobile network coverage. It put the relative importance of television in context. We tend to think of it as part of our familiar everyday life. In fact many people now rely on their mobile phone and possibly the internet as much if not more than radio or television. Next week sees the start of IBC in Amsterdam, the main technology show in Europe for the broadcasting and associated industries. Increasingly, that includes other forms of telecommunications. Once again, informitv is pleased to be a media partner for the MPEG Industry Forum Master Class, which this year is entitled The Transition to a New Television Experience. This full day event is free to all IBC attendees and there was standing room only last year, so get there early to secure a seat. I look forward to meeting many of you at IBC.
