Given the date, it might be foolish to forecast the future for Apple TV. There are 1.4 billion active Apple devices, of which 900 million are iPhones. That is an enormous installed base to target with video services. Yet Apple appears to have a rather limited view of television. Meanwhile broadcasters like the BBC are attempting to redefine their purpose in an online world. The risk is that Auntie abandons her knitting in an attempt to look cool with the kids and ends up competing with much larger multinational media businesses.
