The NAB Show takes place in Las Vegas this week, reminding me that it is now eight years since informitv was launched there. Due to other commitments I will not be attending NAB this year, so I will sadly miss the regular rituals of this convention. Like IBC, this broadcast based show aims to embrace a broadband future but the show floor will still be full of the production hardware that is peculiar to what used to be called the electronic media. Much of this may now be in the increasingly inexpensive digital domain of software systems. The production workflows and distribution networks may change, but this remains a craft industry dependent on the talent, ideas and experience of many teams of individuals. The cost and technical barriers to entry may be lower, but expectations of quality are higher than ever. For me, that remains very exciting.
