Smartphones and tablets are increasingly popular for viewing video and with increasing display resolutions and improving streaming quality may not be such a compromise in quality of experience. Overall usage remains marginal compared to traditional television, but the convenience and intimacy of the smaller screen changes the conception of watching a television programme, creating a more personal experience. Combined with the ability to browse media and then view it on a bigger screen, this represents a real disruption to the way we have traditionally viewed television. This is being enabled by emerging consumer electronics ecosystems that have little to do with traditional television value networks.
