People travelling to other countries may be irritated that their usual online video services are often blocked for rights reasons. That may change, at least in Europe, as a result of a new regulation intended to promote cross-border portability. This will apply to paid services but can optionally allow free services to be offered outside the member state in which the user is resident. Will this simply enable broadcasters to extend their services to people travelling on holiday or business, or is it open to potential abuse? What’s your view?
