It’s the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week. It’s about tablets as much as phones, although they seem to be converging. Many of them have full high-definition displays. Some of them come with cameras capable of shooting 4K video. It’s a fast-moving field. Less than a decade ago, wise engineers were telling us that 352×288 pixels at 15 frames per second would be adequate for mobile television. Unsurprisingly, none of those services survived. This year we expect over a billion smartphones to be sold. All of them will be capable of video. Most of them will be smarter than the smartest television.
