It’s Mobile World Congress week in Barcelona. Mobile communications is a massive business, generating over a trillion dollars in revenue last year. There are over five billion mobile subscribers worldwide. Over half of them are in the Asia Pacific region. Europe and North America have the highest percentage of subscribers per head of population, at around 85%, while around 73% have mobile internet. 68% of connections in North America are to 4G networks, compared to 41% in Europe, or 29% globally. The GSMA forecasts that over half of the world’s mobile connections will be running on 4G networks by 2025, with a further 14% on 5G, following the launch of the first commercial 5G networks this year. Video currently accounts for 55% of mobile data traffic, expected to rise to 75% in five years.

Also this week is BVE, the leading media and technology show in London. It’s free to attend. If you were planning to be there it would be great to catch up.
