Today sees the start of the annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Tom Wheeler, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, will be among the keynote speakers. The new FCC proposals for open internet access will also apply to mobile networks in the United States. Mobile access will be increasingly important for video services. As our Multiscreen Index shows, cable companies are losing television customers while the two leading telcos in America are continuing to gain video subscribers. Between them they also have over 175 million mobile subscribers. So should service providers pursue a ‘mobile first’ strategy when it comes to television and video?
