The Streaming Media Europe conference takes place in London this week. I’ll be one of the moderators for the Content Delivery Summit. Over the last decade, streaming media has moved from the margins of web pages to mainstream media. Now it’s coming to the television screen. We’ll be discussing how internet standards can deliver online video services over the top of broadband networks at the quality consumers have come to expect from broadcasters. How far traditional broadcasters will be able to control the consumer experience remains open to question. This week the United Kingdom communications regulator Ofcom will decide whether to investigate whether YouView, the partnership of British broadcasters led by the BBC, is a threat to competition in this emerging market.
