London is to have a new local television network, backed by the Evening Standard newspaper, due to be on air by the end of the year. London Live beat four other applicants for the local television licence for the capital. In addition to broadcasting on terrestrial, cable and satellite television, it has plans to offer 33 local services for each borough to be delivered over broadband. It will partner with Monterosa to deliver second screen services. As a Londoner who started out in local radio and television, I will watch with interest to see how this cross-media initiative develops.
