Virgin Media has dropped all 10 channels from UKTV, which is now jointly owned by the BBC and Discovery, and deeply dependent on archive programming, after failing to renew a carriage agreement, citing restrictions placed on the ability to offer programmes on demand. The BBC has been seeking partners to buy out UKTV. Average viewing time for public service television channels in the United Kingdom is in decline, particularly among children and young adults. There are renewed proposals for broadcasters to band together to create a more coherent online offering in response to online subscription video services. Some are calling it Kangaroo Two, after the project name of a previous joint venture, which was blocked by competition authorities. Watch this increasingly contested space.
