Microsoft has secured another key customer for its Mediaroom platform in the form of Reliance Communications in India. Despite the enormous potential market, the number of broadband homes that Reliance connects is currently comparatively low. In Europe, Swisscom and BT have revealed relatively modest uptake for their IPTV services based on the Microsoft Mediaroom platform, with 60,000 customers each. Deutsche Telekom is another Microsoft customer for its telco television service, but you will fail to find any figures for subscribers in their latest financial statements. The numbers are thought to be in the low tens of thousands. While some of the largest telecommunications companies in the world may have signed up to the Microsoft Mediaroom platform, they still have some way to go to sign up significant numbers of subscribers.
