This week it’s the Digital TV World Summit in London. It’s all about the next generation of digital television and bringing it into the connected era. Yet how many people in this industry are really thinking beyond the next year or so in the future of television? What will television look like in a decade or more? The chief executive of Netflix thinks that the age of broadcast television will last until 2030. “The horse was good until we had the car,” he said in a knowing reference to something Henry Ford is not known to have actually said. Rather than come up with a faster horse, perhaps we should be thinking about how best to meet the needs of users.
