The latest forecasts from Ericsson and Cisco both suggest that the massive increase in video traffic delivered over data networks will continue over the next few years. Of course, if we measured traditional digital television transmissions by the bits received the figures would be phenomenal, but the rise in online video presents enormous challenges and opportunities for service providers, particularly on mobile networks. Meanwhile traditional television platforms are evolving, albeit at a slightly slower pace. This week is the ANGA cable show in Cologne. It’s the leading congress and exhibition for the broadband, cable and satellite industries in Europe, attracting around 16,000 visitors. Later this month it’s BroadcastAsia in Singapore, from 18-21 June.
