Traditional television is still incredibly popular, despite competition from other forms of online video viewing. The chief executive of Netflix believes the internet is the future of television and that channels will become apps. Will Netflix be just one among many apps? NBCUniversal will launch an online service but is viewing it as a comedy channel. What’s the role of the service provider in pulling all this into a coherent proposition? Or is that now the function of companies like Apple? Media companies cannot afford to wait to find out.
