This week informitv comes from Amsterdam at the IPTV and Telco Triple Play Forum. Dutch telecommunications company KPN, which has just launched a broadband television service called Mine, is one of a number of European telcos that are aiming to break into the television business. Meanwhile, television networks are beginning to exploit the internet as a secondary distribution medium. On the one hand, closed networks can offer managed quality of service and a true televisual experience. On the other hand, the open internet can offer immediate access to an enormous broadband market, potentially bypassing service operators. It remains to be seen whether these two views of video services will be complementary or competitive.
