There seems to be little doubt that the future of television will be interactive, even if interactive television is not itself a hot topic of conversation. The IBC convention in Amsterdam no longer has a separate section for ITV but there were many exhibitors in the new IPTV area, which to all intents is the new name for interactive television. With the convergence of communications networks, a key theme of the conference was broadcasting by broadband. I presented a paper on ‘Peering into the future of digital media distribution’ looking at peer-to-peer delivery. On show on the Microsoft stand was the first public demonstration of LiveStation, a new peer network platform for broadcasting over broadband with which informitv is involved.
