Today is the deadline for the BBC to release the completed component documents of the Canvas core technical specification. These are confidential documents that informitv requested to be released under the Freedom of Information Act to allow wider examination. The BBC initially refused. On appeal an internal BBC review dismissed all three reasons given for not releasing the draft documents but considered that it was still reasonable to withhold them because there was an intention to publish them in the future when they could be presented with the relevant context. However, the BBC Trust has insisted that any completed component documents be released by today, with further revisions to be published on the BBC web site as they are completed and no later than eight months before launch.
