I was taking photographs at an event over the weekend. Like many of the photographers lined up there I had thousands of pounds worth of kit on a tripod. Many of us had very similar cameras and lenses and were probably taking very similar pictures in an attempt to record the event, no doubt to be enhanced through extensive post production. We were surrounded by crowds of people taking pictures on their smartphones. Some of them were sharing their images within seconds. While they may have lacked some qualities, they were clearly important images to these people as personal evidence of their involvement in the scene. After all, quality is in the eye of the beholder.
