The government has recommended a new chair of the BBC Trust and commendably chosen a woman. Rona Fairhead was formerly chair and chief executive of the Financial Times Group and is currently a non-executive director of HSBC and PepsiCo. The Trust is the governing body of the BBC, responsible for representing the interests of its licence payers. With the current Royal Charter due to run until the end of 2016, the existing arrangements for funding the BBC and the role of the Trust are likely to be high on the agenda.
