While hopes may be rising for a return to a new normal, it is difficult to see how an international event like IBC can take place in Amsterdam this September. The organisers are still planning for this, although they say they are not blindly heading towards an event come what may. There are suggestions that coronavirus may have been circulating at CES in Las Vegas in January, with some returning with unusual symptoms, although little was known about it at the time. Eventually it became clear that NAB had no option but to cancel its event in April. Even if it were legally possible to hold IBC in September, it may not be responsible to encourage tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world to attend. Many companies will be making their own risk assessments, and many will already be making alternative arrangements. I will miss it, but in these challenging times, it is has become a priority to work on new ways of promoting products and services that may be more efficient and cost effective.
