GEM

Globally Executable MHP core subset of the Multimedia Home Platform.

GEM or Globally Executable MHP was created to allow organisations to define specifications based on the DVB MHP Multimedia Home Platform to take account of local business requirements and transmission standards while maximising interoperability between GEM based specifications.

Essentially, the GEM specification lists those parts of the MHP specification that have been found to be DVB technology or market specific and enables these to be replaced where necessary with functional equivalents.

GEM is not a standalone specification that can be directly implemented but a framework to be used by the organisations wishing to define specifications based on MHP. The GEM specification enables developers to write applications that can be directly interoperable across different GEM based receivers.

GEM is published by ETSI as TS 102 819.
