ACAP

Advanced Common Application Platform for interactive television.

ACAP or the Advanced Common Application Platform is the result of harmonisation of the CableLabs OpenCable OCAP standard and the previous DTV Application Software Environment DASE specification of the ATSC or Advanced Television Systems Committee.

Like OCAP it is a derivative of MHP by way of the GEM specification.

There are some differences from MHP, as allowed by GEM’s concept of functional equivalents. These include a slightly modified version of the carousel system used by MHP, a mandatory return channel and support for unbound applications which can run at any time and are not tied to a particular channel.

ACAP is a candidate standard of the ATSC.
