Tandberg Television has announced plans to acquire the N2 Broadband video-on-demand business.

Tandberg is best known for its video compression systems and digital cable head ends, while Atlanta-based N2 Broadband provides open-platform software systems for video-on-demand.

The combined resources of the two companies will increase the presence of Tandberg in the North American market, while offering N2 Broadband a route to market in Europe and the Asia Pacific region.

Eric Cooney, president and chief executive of Tandberg Television said “The acquisition of N2 Broadband will enable us to dramatically expand our North American market presence and augment our total solution offering to include the world’s most advanced and open VOD software solution.”

“This is a highly synergistic move that brings together complementary core technologies and market positions for the on-demand world,” said Reggie Bradford, president and chief executive of N2 Broadband.
